Not every fish can live with eachother. You need to find fish that are interesting and come back and ask more specific questions. There are thousands of fish out there, and quite a few can go in your tank. I am more than happy to help you out once you pick a couple ideas that you like.

Do you know what cycling a tank is? It's the bacteria your fish need to survive in your tank. Here is an article about it: http://www.aquariumsecrets.com/Fishless.htm

To start you off here are a few places to read up on fish. This first place can show you compatibility.

Not all fish can live in any tank, many will outgrow a 55g, and you need to do your research and NOT listen to any fish store person, because they will bull$hit there way into a sale.

I hope i have helped you a little, but when you come back with some ideas, I can help you more, k?

Hi, Amber, and welcome! Check out the fish profiles and fish charts on this site. They'll help you see what types of fish will go well together, and which ones might have special needs or problems which could affect their ability to be in a community. You'll also want to note the eventual sizes that each type of fish will grow to in order to know whether or not they'll fit in your tank 2 years from now.

I suggest identifying a favorite fish you want to have in your tank, and then building a community to accommodate that fish. Once you come up with your plan, post it here, and get some input to see if the folks here think it will work.
