I'd like to start up a 10-15g tank. I want it to be planted, have 3-4 ADF's, a few snails, perhaps a male betta, and an oto or 2. I have a tank that's cycled that I will try and seed the new tank with. Out of the species I mentioned, are any of them not hardy to start a new tank by seeding? I know the otos can't go in right away till there's algae growing. Would the species I mentioned get along with one another?

From the reading I've done, those should be ok. Just watch your betta; if he's one with a bad attitude, you may have to remove him. The frogs, snails, and otos should be fine together as long as there's enough for everyone to eat. Also, you'll have to make sure the frogs get enough food. They're pretty slow and can't see worth a darn, so it takes a while for them to get around to eating. I find that always feeding them in the same place helps.

Well the 15 grew into a 20g tank. Now I'm not sure what I want in it. Sigh.

So what do I put in this 20g tank. I really was looking forward to ADF's with some fish. But now, I don't know. I was thinking of sticking to species native to Africa to go along with the frogs. Or, do I go community...help!

Bloodfin tetras! Bloodfin tetras! With panda cory cats as your bottom feeders! That's what I've got in my 20 gallon, anyways. Supposedly you can fit a parrot cichlid (parrotfish) or two into a 20 gallon, but that's according to PetsMart...you'd have to ask Russ or Sully.
Out of insanity comes brilliance...or was it the other way around?

Here's my current thoughts. I'm going to take out my 4 zebra danios, 2 rosey barbs, and 1 neon blue dwarf gourami, and 6 snails out of my overcrowded 29g, and put them in the new 20g, and add another dwarf gourami, and an ADF or two.

Will the rosey barbs bother the ADF's?

Is it a 20L or 20H? A 20L would be better for the fish and frogs you want...

I'm not sure if its a 20l or 20h. It's 25" long. So what does that make it?

A 20H is 24" long, a 20L is 30" long.
