What do you think about these sinking wafers? I may buy some for my yo yo loaches.

They are not cheap, but are supposed to be high-quality according to user ratings at this site:

http://www.cichlid-forum.com/reviews/view_product_review.php?id=1058

They can be bought at bigalsonline.com:

I find it hard to believe that they won't eventually fall apart and pollute your water. Personally, I use Hikari Sinking Wafers and all of my fish seem to enjoy them. The snails really love them! I have been very happy with all of Hikari's products. Much cheaper than $13.99 too!

I like NLS food. Compare the ingredients list to that of another brand and see what you think.

My fish love the small tropical pellets.

I found an ingredients list for the New Life Spctrum brand, and the list is pretty impressive. I did not, however, see anything about phosphate content, which I would like to know.

I know that the Hikari brand has a fair amount of phosphate. I read a label on their sinking wafers in a LFS. I have heard good things about Hikari, but excess phosphate is still a concern. I think there was around 10% phosphate in the Hikari wafers, if I recall correctly (could be wrong).

I guess I don't give any thought to the phosphates in food. Why does it worry you?
Is the food sitting a long time without getting eaten?

Hikari is considered a good brand. Some people think NLS is a superior food and it does have a healthy sounding ingredients list, as does HBH, but I think the preferable thing is to have a few good brands and rotate between them. I have a lot of different foods for mine.

I seem to have algae problems, even though I feed sparingly, so I always try to limit phosphates as much as possible. Since the Hikari food I saw had about 10% phosphates, that seems too high for my tastes!

I plant to buy a few different foods (been using flakes mainly, with some sinking granules) in the future.
