Weeeell....put one of my baby spixis in my 20 gallon tank, and found out that my peppermint brig is actually a female when I caught the two mating. I've asked about this before, but I'm just double checking...they can't have babies together, can they? I don't want a batch of little mutants!

LOL As far as I know (and experienced), Spixi's will breed successfully with Marisa's. I've never seen or heard of them having young with Brigs.

I'll have to do some research!

What happens when a spixi mates with a marisa? What is produced? Do you call it a "spirisa" or a "marixi?"

I finally realized having my full name on my profile was not not only unsafe in the technical world, it was also seriously nerdy.

Here's a couple of pictures of a spixi/marisa mix. Not mine...borrowed from applesnail.net.

It would seem then that they need to be re-named, and have the same genus name in their scientific name.

Jeff, I'd call it a spirisa :-)

Debbs, if you come up with anything, let me know please!
