not the best idea mike. as you've noted, African cichlids are aggressive. Herotilapia multispinosum are quite placid and won't stand a chance in a tank of rambunctious roudies.

:-( okay, they're so pretty i was really hoping i could get away with it, how about a green severum? or is this the same thing because of the agression

how 'bout keeping a tank of Central/South American cichlids OR African cichlids. the two just don't mix well.

'course you could always get another tank and keep both.

African and American Cichlids speak different languages. Its is hard for them to get along without getting physical. So they are not recommended to keep. Also the water characteristics of the ideal habitats are not similar.

I currently keep American Cichlids. I am opting for Dan's resolution "'course you could always get another tank and keep both." I am attracted to a certain type of non American cichlids. As I learn more I will be able to share more.
Filter and heater $80
65 gallon aquarium $280
Gazing at your Apistogramma for hours on end.....
PRICELESS!!!
