My mpanga red female (Labeotropheus trewavasae)finaly spit her fry this morning!I went down to feed my fish this morning and could immediately see her mouth was empty, looked around the tank and could see about 15 fry,I didnt expect them to be so big!5/16"or larger all in one 3" fishes mouth!!Absolutely amazing.I put the female in a 20g recovery tank I had prepared for her,and left the fry in the 55g.
Unfortunately was on my way out the door and didnt get back home until after lights out tonite and I work 8am-11pm tomorrow so I wont be able to spend any time watching them till monday.
But Im very excited to spend some time with them then!

No bap award points there arent any clubs within 100miles of me.Just breeding africans for fun these are the first,I managed to find a few breeders that deal in wild caught and f1 fish that I can pickup fish from on occasion, when I have time to do a 300mile round trip collecting run.So I have a few nice fish now,and will pick up more sometime next month.A few people have f1 salusi available and a few other fish Ive been looking for.Of course there is the thought in the back of my head that since quality mbuna arent available anywhere near me I could possibly sell a few,at this point its all about the joy of watching them grow.
My afras have held briefly a few times but they are still really young they need some more time before I see fry.Its almost time for the lights to go on so I can go check them out!

I guess I was right about the afra holding too cause I spotted a fry in the tank just now while doing waterchanges. It scooted under a rock didnt want to risk smashing it so itll have to fend for itself, but thats good to know next time one of the females is holding maybe Ill take her out.
