ok on monday i noticed that one of my older goldfish had a small...lump(?) on his/her side.
today when i came home from school i noticed the lump got bigger. Is anything seriously wrong with it. or is it something natural?

Not enough info to guess, but no matter what it is, I would switch it to an all fresh diet (fresh spinach, romaine lettuce, orange quarter, etc.) for a couple days, in case it has a blockage of some sort. The fresh foods won't hurt if it is something else.

How about a pic, and some info on your tank, water parameters, stocking, maintenance schedule, etc.?

I have never had a GF 'jump' out of a tank, I think you are safe without a hood.

pretty craft imaging

I'd definately up the water changes to 50% a week with goldfish.

Regardless of how small they are now, with 4 in a 20, you should be changing 50% 2 or 3 times a week, or they won't have a chance to outgrow it...

Dear Raven,

did u mean to say u change 50% once a month???

or once a week? once a month is unthinkable!!

with what u have, your tank is too small for 4. so u have to do as cindy says change water , change water. at least 3 times a week...... do it slowly though
and u need to vac the gravel at least 2 times a week!!!
