I have a 36,000 gallon(US) concrete swimming pool that has been neglected for over a year.It 8 ft deep on one end 3 ft deep on the other.

We had many tadpoles and a water snake take up residence for the last year. We even had seom ducks take a two day layover int their travles..lol...
I had to move the snake and as many taddies as I could catch a few weeks ago so we could try and clean it... we dosed it with chlorine twice and since it has fallen into emerald green condition again- complete with a new batch of tadpoles:-)

Would it be possible to convert this pool to a koi pond?

It's a basic pool with a surface skimmer intake and a cartrige filter system although if needed that could be changed...
i'm just playing with the idea right now...

Algae shouldn`t be a problem. Just get 739 otos, 1 243 shrimp, 67 bn plecos, 1 945 snails, and you`re set. Oh yeah, and a 500ml bottle of Flourish for the plants.

There are several websites on the net about just such conversions, breezey:

You know, that first link was really cool and all, but did anyone else get the impression that he was badly overstocked? It never occurred to me before that a pond that size COULD be overstocked, but . . . wow!

Fr. Ted: You know the phrase 'to take care of something'? Well, I realise now that you meant that in a sort of Al Pacino way. . . Whereas I was thinking more along the lines of Julie Andrews. . .

The urge to overstock is not limited by the tank size;)

That was the first thing I noticed, too, and was a little disappointed not to have any info on the pool, just pics.

Did you see his directions for construction of a "mega tank" - on a different page? (I can't seem to come up with a direct link, all the pages show the URL of his homepage, so click on "Mega Tank" on the left to see it.)

That is amazing. Using the inch per gallon rule he could have a mile of fish! (Just kidding)

that would be fun to watch. more fun to swim in. haha.

OH My Gosh! That's what I've been wanting to do! Please keep us posted with the details and how it turns out, I might be using your experiences for a pool pond of my own someday (hopefully). Good luck with it, I hope it turns out really nicely!
