in may this year i noticed this frog hanging around my pond, i thought it would leave but it never did, i like the frog its kinda neat having her in there but she had babies only 3 of them lived the fish ate the rest i guess. i new she was a female because i read about the green frogs online and they have a spot behind there eye and the size of it determines there sex. now the thing is are all these green frogs going to hurt my fish when they hibernate?? i have a koi,3 comets and 2 shibunckins(probably spelled wrong)they havent harmed the fish at all as of now, but can the frogs aggravate them in the winter? my pond is 800 gallons i think there should be plenty of room, but im not sure...so wut do u guys think?

they`ll be fine for the winter. Best buds!

Just make sure the frogs have somewhere to hibernate. I have a plastic pond and always have plenty of dead frogs to scoop out in the spring. It`s a 4 foot deep pond and the ground here freezes to 5 feet. *sigh* winter`s coming.

thanks for the wonderful story about the frogs!! it will give me something more than starting my pond up to look forward to in spring!!! cant wait to scoop out dead frogs! lol....ok when u say somewhere for them to hibernate, what do you mean, should i put some rocks in there or something for them to go behind, instead of just leaving them in the open pond w/ the fish???

nope. Frogs generally dig into the side bank of mud, and make a burrow. Think of an underwater bear cave, frog sized. They don`t just hang out at the bottom underneath the ice like fish do. That`s why plastic ponds don`t work.

I have a pond behind my house (other than the plastic one) so I toss them in there in late October. They can spend the winter there, then go do whatever they want in the spring.

put them in a Rubbermaid container and bring them to the nearest stream, pond, lake.....There has to be something nearby or they wouldn't have found their way to your pond in the first place.
