Anyone have any info on this disease? I have noticed my
fish have developed little black spots on on their backs
lately but I have not been able to find out too much about
this disease on the net

Aha, you are in luck. There was just this same question
asked in the latest addition of Aquarium Fish magazine.
Black spot is actually a cyst from parasitic worm larvae.
They have a very complex life cycle and could have been
introduced to your fish by snails. If you see these black
spots on the fish, there is a pretty good chance some of
them have burrowed into the fishes organs. Even tho you
may not have any snails in your tank, this parasite could
have reached the fish by snails kept with the fish at the
LPS.
There is no treatment for this parasite, but in most cases
they are not considered fatal and when the cycle is complete
the parasite will die. I might, however, suggest some internal
parasite food as I suggested to marie.

I have 2 tetras with black spots - looks like mildew. They're
about a year old, acting fine & other fish not sick.
Have no snails. ?

Vera could be a hard call. Badmans main board(see Medications)has
black spot listed under parasites, but I have never seen
it and don't think it's that common. If the spots
are on the fish body I would treat as that, however if the
black is just on the tail check the description under fungus.
Fungus is usually white, but if algae has collected in it
according to the description listed it may look greenish.
Last note if it really is parasitic all fish may catch and
I would treat the whole tank.

It's not on the fins, it's all over the body, one
even has it on the lips. None of the other fish have it
& the two are acting fine. Thanx - I'll check under
parasites.
