I have a platy with Ick and she doesn't seem to be
getting any better with treatment. I am treating her with
Maracide and tomorrow will be the last day. Any suggestions?
Also my two other platys or other fish for that matter
look fine. I thought that Ick was contagious!?
Thanks for all the input

filter too?...and above all be sure you know what you
are treating for..OK

Jeff- I have otto cats and corrys and a african dwarf
frog in my tank so I don't know if I can use the rid-ich+.
Today after the last dose I was watching my platy and
she looks much better. No spots on her at all. What a
change in 24 hours

oh,ok..tracy..but rid-ich+ is fine for those fish..now
anyway.. since the spots are gone..continue your present
treatment for 3 days, then stop and all should be well.

Hey Jeff and Tracy!
Move the frog out when using the RidIch+... the malachite
green in the RidIch+ may kill the ADF... they are
super sensitive to it. You can keep the frog in a 1-2
gal container for the duration of treatment and move him
back to the main tank the next day after having performed
your final 40% water change (at the end of treatment)
and adding the carbon back in.

Thanks Barb....That is always good to remember for future
reference.
Jeff...Two of my platys died. Besides the ick it looked
like they got tail and fin rot. The one lost it whole
dorsal fin and just died on me the other one I flushed
because she got the ick back and I didn't want to
worry about the other fish getting sick. She was the one
that I wrote to you about. One day her spots were gone
and the next day they were back. I didn't know what
else to do. Maybe those two had something else because
my other platy looks great and the neons and glolights
all are fine. So you tell lme could they have had something
else or just combo of things?

ah sorry tracy..that sucks..I did not know you also had
that problem..we try to treat ich three days after the
spots disappear in order to kill of any remaining in your
tank..now are you saying also the spots came back after
the 3 days?..also because your fish had the fin and tail
rot going on in there which I am sorry I did not know
this..It would have been good to follow up with maracyn
2 or kanacyn to clean up any bacterial infections..combos
of things do happen....now if you are saying you just
removed a fish with ich than it's still in your tank...if
it shows take the frog out and treat with the rid-ick+...if
the other platy is Ok..keep an eye on it...as you may
have to treat those one too in a seperate tank for any
bacterial infection that may show...again very sorry

Jeff... I did treat with maracyn 2 as well as the maracide.
I started doing this as soon as I seen some of the tail
fin gone. I guess that they were just too far gone. I
don't know. If a week goes by and no signs, can I
get more fish? Like I said before everyone else in the
tank looks good. So I think that the disease attacked
those two and by me treating it prevented the rest from
getting it. Also I did a water change and took everything
out(plants and ornaments) and cleaned.
sorry to be so long winded I just wanted to let you know
all this info.
Again thanks for all input!!

well tracy seems like you did the right things and it
didn't work..maracyn 2 is a good gram neg fighting
antibiotic.. perhaps the fish where just not able to fight
things off sometimes for worse infections kanacyn is a
better choice over M2..I am sure you did also remove the
carbon from your filter?..as far as the fish in your tank..they
do tend to have a bit of immunity built up after the disease
but still can act a carriers..hence the new fish right
now would be a bad idea..the stressed fish from the move
into your tank could set off a whole new ich cycle...now
your present fish might show signs of refestation if they
are stressed out again..probably within 70hrs..you did
your big water change after so now that's good and
be sure to have those good water conditions...wait a good
week before getting new fish and quarantine the new ones
for a week before introducing them into your tank..again
sorry for what happened
