When you get new fish how long should you quarantine them
before introducing them into the main tank? I have had some
kuhli loaches in quarantine for a week now because if they
got sick (loaches are especially prone to white spot
aren't they?)I figured they would be too difficult
to catch them in the main tank and then transfer into the
quarantine/hospital tank for treatment (it would just
stress them out even more). How long would it take for
most diseases to show up?

They haven't been sick and thus haven't been treated
for anything. I'm just quarantining them just in case
they do. I got them a week ago and I didn't want to
put them into the main tank straight away just in case they
carried any disease from the petshop. And if they were weakened
by the stress of being caught I thought they might get sick
(especially Ich) and it would be easier for me to
treat them in an almost bare 10 gallon tank. Sorry - I don't
think I explained this very well in my original post. If
they were going to get sick after being moved - how long
would it take for any symptoms to show up? I imagine that
it would only be about a week but I wasn't sure. I would
love to put them into the main tank as soon as possible.

I QT two weeks when I do. Most LFS stores only guarantee
fish for 7 days, so they are really covering themselves!
I have read 2-3 weeks to be safe.

OK cool. I had read somewhere that you should quarantine
for *4-6 WEEKS* and I was really hoping that this
wasn't necessary!
