First question: I have two Corys which I got at the lps.
They were unusual (haven't seen them there before
or since), and the store couldn't tell me what they
were other than Corys. I have tentatively identified them
as Black Top Corys (Corydoras Actus) through a Japanese
website which had a good photo but little info. Do any of
you folks have information on these little guys?
Second question: How do I know my Corys are getting enough
to eat? Do I feed for the surface eaters only, or do I overfeed
slightly to ensure some flake makes it to the bottom? These
two Corys are in a 5.5 gal tank with three White Clouds.

You can buy small tablets Tetramin or sinking wafers from
Hikari that sink to the bottom for all bottom feeders. Maybe
put one in a couple of times a week if you only have two
cory. Don't throw too much flake in the tank trying
to get them to eat.

Thanks, Joyce. The lps guy said not to worry about scavengers
getting enough to eat, but the food quantity going in just
doesn't seem to be sufficient without overdoing it on
the flakes. Looks like I'm off to the store again. This
ain't a cheap hobby, is it?
How about the Corys themselves? You always seem to be up
on identification when folks ask. Know anything about these
catfish?

Nope, but try planetcatfish.com. It's a website for
catfish and maybe you can find lots of information on them.
I have two very old peppered cory!

Thank you, and I will check out that site. Oh, and the Corys
had a good time with the first Tetramin tablet I dropped
in for them--polished it right off! And our little loach
in the other tank thought right highly of the one I dropped
in for him, and is swimming contentedly about with a bulging
belly. He didn't get it all, though, because the Danios
and Guppies joined in on the feast. I may try using half
a tablet next time!

Interesting site, Joyce, but now I'm not sure whether
I've got Corydoras Actus or Corydoras Julii. The pictures
on this site are a bit different, and Julii is what my Corys
look like. Oh well, they be catfish!

I had to check out the site for my UD catfish, since I was
afraid they were the Asian ones that get huge. At least
I ruled out the Asian, but I never definately identified
them. They may be cuckcoo catfish, but not positive. There
sure are a lot of catfish out there.
