I have a 29gallon tank that has been set up for about 3 weeks, the PH is 8.0 theres no ammonia. I have like 3 mollies and i add 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons. well my questions are will plecos and cory catfish do ok in the tank with salt? my other question is I drop the algae wafer in after 1 hour the lights have been off, why doesn't the pleco eat the wafer? I've tried when the lights are on and he doesn't eat the wafer theres no much algae in my tank but he doesn't eat the wafer can I do somthing ?

Plecos and Cories are supposedly some of the most sensitive fish to salt. Mostly because they are scaleless and may get burned. They are found in South American river systems that lack any salt at all.

In your tank, though, you barely have any salt (as opposed to others). I know of people who have kept cories and plecos pretty good in 1 tablespoon/5 gallons.

As for the wafers, mine goes right to them. Maybe your Mollies are out-competing him for them (since they like algae) but i've seen plecos scare away pretty large fish for an algae wafer. The pleco could also be filling up on algae in the back of your tank but im sure the mollies help with that.

BTW, what kind of pleco is it? If it is a Zebra Pleco it is more carnivorous than omnivorous and will rarely eat algae.

its a albino pleco but It's a dark black color with little black dots but the the albino picture they have at planet catfish matches my pleco.

You can try a slice of zucchini weighted down with a plant wire. Also they have sinking tablets that are not spirulina if your pleco requires a more meaty diet. Some of the tabs are made by Tetra.

it's a type of squash...kinda resembles a cucumber...but tastes quite different. most grocery stores carry them I think...

I think they are called some kind of pickle in Australia...so maybe they are called something else in England. Kind of long and green like a cuke, but bigger around. A lot of people like to slice it and fry it.

I looked in a cookery book and it said that they are courgettes. It makes sense now. I will try that on my pleco
