Is rust a water hazard to fish?

Noticed that one of the artificial plants in my aquarium decor stock (it's not in a tank right now) has some rusty areas on it. Does anybody know if rust is a hazard to the fish? (OK, I might end up tossing it in the garbage for aesthetic reasons, but I'll sure do it quicker if the rust is dangerous to fish). Thanks! Julia

• ms. gill..(I love that name)...What you are seeing probably just needs to be cleaned up...if it has bare wire instead of all plastic then toss it..if you like to go with fake plants try silk they are pretty real looking and will look nice in your tank...
