Manufacturer's write up

Marineland

Unique combinations of beauty, precision and 3-stage BIO-Wheel filtration efficiency, the Eclipse® Aquarium Systems are fascinating showpieces for home or office or anywhere. Each system includes color-enhancing fluorescent lighting and a seamless, injection-molded aquarium with 360 degrees of gently curved, panoramic viewing area. Each kit includes Marineland Labs' BIO-Blend™ Tropical Fish Food, BIO-Safe™ Tap Water Conditioner, and BIO-Coat™ Stress Defense. There's an informative beginners fishkeeping guide, too. And the new System Twelve Kit features an added plus...special compact fluorescent lighting that is 15% brighter than conventional tubing, yet consumes less energy. Eclipse Aquarium Systems easily accommodate accessories such as heaters and airline tubing. There are no hoses, no cumbersome filter boxes, no noisy air pumps. And because the Eclipse Rite-Size Filter Cartridge is inside the top mounted frame, rear space requirements are minimal.

Major design flaw will drive you crazy trying to keep up with condensaction and/or leaks over the back of the tank!! How could they have NOT thought of this when designing the hood? Expect issues if you are not diligent in upkeep. Not for the casual aquarium/fish owner.

Mine has worked fine for about 6 years. I've never had problems with condensation, etc. I've moved the tank with me numerous times as well. It's a good system for a novice who is overwhelmed with all the filtration, light, etc. choices out there.

I was surprised to read all the negative comments on the Eclipse series, but maybe the older ones weren't as good. I have the Eclipse 12 system, and it works beautifully. The filters cost a whopping $5 for a package of 3, and they really do last a month. The Bio-wheel works great, so I'm not sure why one of the previous posts said to toss it. I have live plants in it, and they do well under the supplied fluorescent light. If I could change one thing about it, it would be nice if the hinged lid was designed so that the condensation fell back into the tank when you opened it, but if you open it slowly and lift it out of the hinge things stay dry.

I have only had the system for about a month, but so far, I love this filter system. It is quiet and works very well, IMO. It is great not to have to look at an ugly external filter system or hear it pumping away 24/7. I just started to stock fish and I am noticing two things that may or may not be problems -- I think the lighting is too bright for the fish, they seem to congregate in the darker side of the tank (where overhead plants obscure some of the lighting) -- they appear to swim more freely across the tank when the lighting is turned off. Also the water current caused by the flow from the overhead filter make the fish appear like they're trying to swim "upstream" in that area. I am sure I will find solutions to these small problems. I have had absolutely no problem with leakage or noise as others have posted.

Well, everything started bad with my Eclipse 12, it came from Petsmart with a broken canopy and crushed biowheel... I got a new one from Petsmart in excellent shape. Since then, it has been wonderful... This is the first "small" tank I've ever had.. I currently have , 2-29's, 3-55's, 1-75, 1-90....I figured, I'd try the 12 since it includes the light/filter all in one w/an acrylic tank. As with a post above, I too cut my own filters for this, but they are only used during medication or if I'm running low on cartridges(which isn't a problem too often).. Right now, my biggest beef is the impeller... It made so much noise for the first few days, and every so often now it acts us.... I already have 3 extra impellers I ordered online. I was told to replace the impeller every 4-6 months to be safe.. No problem... But I'll tell you this, this 12 has cost me almost as much as my 90, and my 90 is running an Eheim 2128 Thermofilter! Prices are a drawback, but it's worth it so far to me. I'll tell you know once it hits the 1 year mark in 4 months if it is still worth it.....
