Cardinal Tetra

Species: Paracheirodon axelrodi
Common Name: Cardinal Tetra
Size: 1¾ in (4.5 cm)
Habitat: Northern South America, Venezuela, through Brazil Into Eastern Colombia. Found in the tributaries of the Rio Negro and the Orinoco river.
Min Tank Size: 20"
Diet: Mostly carnivorous. Bloodworms, daphnia, brine shrimp, tubifex worms, flakes, micro pellets will suffice.
Behavior: Peaceful Schooling fish, 6+ of same species preferred for comfort of the fish.
Water: Acidic 6.5 to 5.0 preferred. Blackwater biotope. 75º to 84º degrees F (24º to 29º c.)
Care: Densely planted with some floating plants to filter the harshness of the lights. Very sensitive to enviornmental changes. It is best to make sure water temperature, PH, KH, & GH remain as stable as possible. Also ensure that tank is properly established with no ammonia and nitrites and minimal nitrates. For best coloring, use with dark colored substrate.
Communities: Suitable for other smaller peaceful species, no Cichlids or other aggressive fish.
Suitability: Intermediate/Advanced, expect loses.
