Size: Adult Male: 1.54 inches (3.9 cm)
Habitat: SOUTH AMERICA: Pastaza River basin in Loreto, Peru.
Min Tank Size: 20 gallons (75 liters) or larger.
Min Shoal Size: Best in groups of six or more.
Diet: OMNIVORE: Enjoys a variety of foods including fresh or frozen bloodworm, brine shrimp, daphnia, chopped earthworm, grindal worm and tubifex. Also, algae wafers and sinking catfish foods.
Behavior: Very friendly and peaceful.
Water: Temperature of 72 to 77°F (22 to 25°C), pH 6 to 8.0, 2-25° dH
Care: Moderate. Soft sandy substrate is preferred for keeping sensitive barbels safe when they dig. Small, rounded gravel is also acceptable. To create cover, choose caves, driftwood and tall or floating plants. Substrate should be kept impeccably clean to avoid barbel infections. Water should have a moderate current and high in dissolved oxygen.
Communities: An excellent addition to peaceful community tanks. Tankmates might include anabantoids, characins, dwarf cichlids, cyprinids, danios, livebearers, rasboras and other peaceful catfish. Most confident and outgoing as part of a shoal of at least 6, keeping a male to female ratio of 1:1.
Suitability: Good for all.
