Species: Apteronotus albifrons
Common Name: Black ghost
Size: Up to 20 inches (50cm)
Note: Should not be considered a home aquarium fish, young are always seen for sale and caution should taken before purchasing. It is unfair to subject any animal to less than ideal living conditions.
Habitat: South America: Venezuela to Paraguay and Paraná rivers.
Min Tank Size: At least 55 gallons for young, 125 gallon for mature specimens.
Diet: Omnivorous, will eat small fish and large flake or frozen.
Behavior: Peaceful toward other fish, can be aggressive to their own kind.
Water: Temperature of 73°F to 82°F (23-28°C) ,pH range: 6.0 – 8.0; dH range: 5 - 10
Care: Medium, reacts poorly to bad water conditions.
Communities: Good, may be kept with large peaceful species.
Suitability: Good for the more advanced, not a novice fish.
